Palf and Cat take home the shield!

The Bob Oliver Shield was up for grabs at Farsley Celtic Badminton Leeds Club as the 2016-17 season closed in its usual fashion. We had a record 30 players show up for a chance to get their name in history books of the club, producing 15 doubles teams. Our chairman pre-drew the names to ensure that the tournament could start as quickly as possible. There were 3 groups of 4 teams playing each other once to 21 and then a 4th group of 3 teams where they played each other twice to 21.

After an hour or so of high-quality badminton across 4 very tight groups, we found the top two teams in each pool progress to the quarter finals. In the semi finals, John and Cat defeated Stephen and Janice 21-18, and on the 2nd court John Weir and Suresh defeated Adam and Debs… setting up this years final of which John and Cat defeated John and Suresh 21-16 with some great badminton on show. Everyone then retired to the pub for a hard earned pint!

Our chairman would like to thank everyone that came along to this traditional annual event and personally congratulates the four finalists for their efforts an performance over the evening. It’s been a really positive year for the club and always a great way to end the season. All that is left to say is, bring on September!
