Farsley Celtic Men’s C Team have won the Anchor Trophy for only the second time in the Club’s history after beating rivals Spartans D in a close encounter in the annual Badminton Leeds League cup finals.
The competition reached a tense climax at Gateways School, with Farsley edging out Spartans by just 10 points on the handicap system.
The three Farsley pairings of Roach/Richardson, Sherriff/Osbaldiston, and Spry/Callard all played crucial parts on the night, when every point mattered.
Club Chairman Ian Richardson, a fixture of the Farsley C team said: “It was an epic battle. We knew we were up against a very good team and we had to fight for every point. Beating our Men’s A team in the semi final really gave us the confidence to go out and win this trophy – and thankfully we came out on the right side of the handicap system.”
Farsley also appeared in the Ladies final, but in another close encounter, they just fell short to winners Harrogate.
Farsley Celtic Badminton Leeds Club have now won 20 cup competitions across all disciplines since 1991.
